SPANISH VISIONS - VISIONES DE ESPANA

This Pyro-musical show is an expression of the most characteristic elements of Spanish culture. The show music represents a musical vision of Spain, by the most important Spanish , and foreign composers that were inspired by Spain for their compositions. The products used in the show are 100% Spanish by the world reknown Ricardo Caballer fireworks, with a strong mediterranean character. Alberto Navarro, the Spanish born and American resident fireworks choreographer, who won the competition with his choreography for the USA in 1995, chose and designed for this occasion the best selection of Ricardo's products. Originally designed and choreographed especially for this year's Sky Concert, this show was orchestrated in a precise and rhythmical dance of fire with music. Designed with more than 3000 firing cues in 24 minutes, the show was a world premier in all the aspects.

The show technology was the most advanced in the industry today with premiere installation pyrotechnicians and the largest Pyrodigital system available in any international competition in the world. All provided with excellency by the production team of Marutamaya Co. Ltd of Japan.

It was the first time that RICASA used the Pyrodigital firing system in an international competition.

The other competitiors in this year Sky Concert edition were Syd Howard Fireworks International, representing Australia, and PPA Inc. -Eric Tucker- representing Canada. Marutamaya Co Ltd. brilliantly displayed the closing and award ceremony show.

Following is a description of the show theme:

 

Introduction First Act :The Essence of Spain

Don Quixote, stars in the introduction . Created by Miguel de Cervantes, the so-called Spanish Shakespeare (both died on the same date), Don Quixote was the foremost Spanish hero in literature.

Miguel de Unamuno, a modern Spanish philosopher and writer, defined him:

"Only he who attempts the absurd is capable of achieving the impossible" (Miguel de Unamuno)

The introduction music is from the Broadway musical ,The Man of La Mancha, by Dale Wassermann features Placido Domingo, one of the three tenors, singing

To Dream the Impossible Dream

Second Act : Rythmical Spain

Following the introduction are popular pieces from diverse regions of Spain. It starts with the Celtic rooted north: Asturias and Galicia, with modern sounds of bagpipes and flutes, by the contemporary composer Hevia.

A Flamenco guitar, castanets and Palmas, in a piece from Ruben Romero and Lydia Garcia, represent the South of Andalusia.

An energetic Jota pictures Aragon and Valencia, by the Russian composer Glinka.Castilla and Madrid is represented by a piece of Zarzuela, Spanish genre for Operetta.

Third Act :Theatrical Spain

From Operetta to Opera with the French composer Bizet and the suite of Carmen. Habanera of Carmen and The March of Toreador represent the Spanish passion and romance here.

Fourth Act : Romantic Spain

For a breath recovering Pre-finale, one of the masterpieces of the Spanish music. Concerto de Aranjuez; by Joaquin Rodrigo born in Sagunto (Valencia) the homeland of RICASA.

Finale:Viva Espana

For the closing Finale Farandole from L'Arlessiene (The Girl from Arles) of Bizet. Arles was a Spanish Catalan influenced city in France for many years. This piece was a melodramatic story of love and encompasses the most powerful Finale.
