"Alberto Navarro Portera- Face to Face"

-Alberto, What is Pyrotechnics to you?
AN: An exceptional form of artistic expression. A combination of Art (choreography of color, kinetic forms and music), Science (chemistry and physics), and Technology (the elaboration of pyrotechnic products and firing techniques).
-What do you need to be a good pyrotechnic choreographer?
AN: Knowledge and Inspiration. One must be very familiar with the effects, and have access to the best products and the best manufacturers, who can make quality and custom products. One needs to know how to orchestrate and compile different kinds of music, and to search for the emotional sense that will combine and express itself through the spectacular visual effects of pyrotechnics.
-Multicolor laser, image projections, sound, special effect, Where is the limit in pyrotechnics?
AN: In the ultimate 10 years there has been much advancement in pyrotechnics. New formulas that permit product with the full spectrum of colors, digital programming and firing of pyromusicals, interior special effects and new events.
-Have you moved away from painting?
AN: Not definitively..for the moment my painting is pyrotechnics, the ephemeral painting of the sky...

"Fireworks Show Tells the Tale of One City"
"The Jerusalem skies have seldom seen anything like the fireworks and laser extravaganza that ended the Jerusalem 3000 opening ceremonies last night.Spanish pyro-artist Alberto Navarro designed it all, fitting the lights and fireworks to suit themes of Jerusalems history. When the narration spoke of the people coming to Jerusalem in their thousands, thousands of twinkly laser stars danced up and over the walls, while in the sky the fireworks looked like revolving galaxies. Then, when the city was destroyed, angry lasers launched themselves onto a fiery background and rockets shrieked like white banshees into a shuddering heaven. the show ended with a blessing for peace on the rebuilt Jerusalem and in the sky a final rocket filled the horizon with a great umbrella of stars. As they spread and spread, they reached above the moon which shone through them. The ephemeral and the eternal. Now that was some special effect."

"Prince of Pyrotechnics"
"A big bang will start off the 18 month long celebration of Jerusalem 3000 on September 4... In fact, thousands of bangs, as the fireworks, laser lights, water curtains, dancers, sky show and other special effects synchronize with music by Kobi Oshrat in the biggest sound-and-light multimedia spectacular this country has ever seen. Navarro "sculpts with light', as local fireworks expert Shraga Quater puts it. He's working with Navarro on the show and says admiringly that' he has limitless imagination, knows what he wants and isn't willing to compromise.' Oshrat says..'he's very professional, has a terrific sense of humor and we clicked from the start'.

"Needle to Spark with Eastsiders design"
"At the stroke of midnight Alberto Navarro will light up the Space Needle like a giant sparkler. From behind a computer screen on the ground (Navarro) will carefully monitor a sequence of explosions. A former painter and sculptor, Navarro is considered one of the worlds top fireworks designers ..He switched from paint to fireworks.. when suddenly the sky beckoned as the biggest canvas Navarro could find. He combined his new found love for sky art with his talent for computer graphics and started designing fireworks shows.. At midnight the needles rotating top will explode with a spray of sparks 300 feet into the air. A computer program with 928 firing cues will ignite the pyrotechnics in 260 seconds. The whole show will by synchronized to music.
