USB-Serial Cable Installation
The following is valid only for Radio Shack USB to Serial Cable 26-183 . This is the only cable that we have found with drivers for VISTA . The original drivers contained in the CD or from RadioShack web site, are not valid for VISTA . Do not install these drivers, it won't work.
If you have not yet installed your Radio Shack USB-to-Serial Adapter, click here to download the installation files with the correct ser2pl.sys driver included.
Extract them (it will create a folder called "rshack") and copy the rshack folder to the C:\Windows\inf\ folder.
Be sure to remember this download location when the Windows Installation Wizard prompts you for the location of the driver files.
Plug in your cable.
Allow Vista to look for your device...
When it can't find it select other options and then browse my computer for driver files.
Point it to the C:\Windows\inf\rshack folder make sure the check subfolders box is selected.
Click next.
At this point Vista should find the driver files for you.
The driver is not digitally signed so you will get a dialog wanting you to confirm installation of the drivers.
After this completes you are good to go!
The Cable is installed in Serial Port Com4. You need to select in the Firing Tables Manager and the Modem, Com4.
If you use the Modem and then the Field Controller, you may need to reset the conexion and unplug the USB cable to your computer and reconnect it again, before using the oher device.
In following uses of the cable, VISTA may assign the driver to a different port than Com4 , like Com5, which is not supported by our software. You need then to go to My Computer/System Properties/Device Manager/Ports Com & LPT/ Radioshack USB to Serial cable, double click, go to Port Settings/Advanced and change the COM Port Number to anyone not in use between 1 and 4.
